Electrostatic Disinfection FAQ

How does electrostatic spray work?

Electrostatic spray gives objects an even, 360-degree coating made possible by the negative charge of the sprayed solution as it exits the tool’s nozzle and the positive charge of the surfaces it reaches.

It effectively atomizes cleaning solutions in this way, using electrostatics to attach to and wrap around harmful microorganisms and remove them from surfaces, including those that are difficult to reach.

What are the benefits of electrostatic disinfection?

Electrostatic disinfection saves time, energy and costs across the board by presenting a more efficient alternative to traditional cleaning techniques and cleaning solution applications.

For desktops, floors and walls that need to be spotless, electrostatic spray cleaning is the best option. The same goes for equipment and hard-to-reach places; if a piece of equipment is heavily trafficked, electrostatic spray cleaning can completely remove germs and dirt.

Aids infection control and helps prevent the spread of viruses like influenza, coronavirus, MRSA and HIV

Applies chemicals to surfaces in a controlled manner to eliminate overuse, reduce the number of chemicals used and reduce the amount of waste produced

Protects companies against costly financial burdens associated with contagious healthcare infections and reduces costs associated with purchasing chemical solutions and supporting long-term cleaning efforts

Serves as a defense from cross-contamination and moving germs and bacteria from one surface to another

Reduces the time it takes to disinfect surfaces by 50% compared to traditional cleaning methods

Where can electrostatic disinfection be used?

You can use electrostatic disinfection cleaning methods on many surfaces and in many facility types. This cleaning technique is safe to use in offices, schools, medical facilities, commercial kitchens, and countless other spaces that require a more complete clean.

What are the benefits of continued use?

Electrostatic cleaning kills germs, bacteria and viruses from surfaces and lasts for a while. However, it won’t continuously prevent covered surfaces from becoming re-infected. Some institutions that see higher traffic and use, such as hospitals and schools, will benefit more from continued or regular use of electrostatic disinfection.

More About Electrostatic Disinfection

Is electrostatic disinfection safe?

Yes, electrostatic disinfection and the sprays used in electrostatic cleaning tools are extremely safe for tool operators, people present during the cleaning, and people occupying the space after cleaning.

Cleaning companies using this method will typically ask that you wait one to two hours after a space has finished receiving treatment before entering the area. However, once the application process is complete and dry, the space is safe for both people and animals. Masks and PPE are not required.

Is electrostatic disinfection environmentally friendly?

Electrostatic disinfectants begin to work immediately when sprayed and the surfaces should remain wet with applied solutions for at least two minutes to allow the appropriate dwell time.

Typically, chemicals are applied while spaces are vacant. Commercial Cleaning Corporation asks that occupants of the space wait a minimum of two hours after application before reentering the space.

How much time does electrostatic disinfection take?

The amount of time required to perform electrostatic disinfection services is highly dependent on the size of the area to be cleaned.

It’s important to follow application instructions in order to allow the solutions to work effectively, and the length of time needed for application will depend on the size of the room and type of facility—for example, an open warehouse will require less time than a typical office with furniture and electronic equipment.

If there is a certain level of dirt on surfaces as well, they may be pre-wiped with cleaning solutions prior to spraying.

Does electrostatic spray damage any sensitive surfaces?

Electrostatic spray is safe to use around sensitive surfaces, such as wood, upholstery and electronics, however the cleaning solutions should not be applied directly to these surfaces at a close range to avoid risking damage. Space occupants are also typically asked to store certain items prior to disinfection, such as paperwork and clothing.

Is electrostatic disinfection more effective than other cleaning methods?

Electrostatic disinfection reduces the amount of time it takes to completely disinfect surfaces by up to 50%, so it is an extremely effective method when compared to more traditional cleaning techniques. It is a better way to reach surfaces that are challenging to clean, gives a more even coating of chemical solutions to objects, promotes fast, cost-effective commercial cleaning and offers many other benefits to today’s businesses. Other cleaning methods, such as fogging systems, misters and manual sprayers take a more passive approach to applying cleaning solutions, which often leads to uneven chemical coverage. They are more likely to leave behind unwanted particles and microorganisms and take longer to manually apply.

Electrostatic Disinfection at Your Facility

Is electrostatic disinfection right for my facility?

Electrostatic disinfection is used at countless types of facilities and is most beneficial to those that see regular high traffic, contain hard-to-reach objects that need cleaning, have increased exposure to harmful microorganisms or experience or suspect an outbreak of an infectious disease. It is also effective in spaces where mold has been spotted.

Some spaces that use electrostatic cleaning include corporate buildings, medical and healthcare facilities, K-12 schools and university campuses, commercial kitchens, houses of worship, clean rooms and R&D facilities.

How much do electrostatic disinfection services cost?

Producing a quote for electrostatic disinfection is highly dependent on the location and size of the space to be cleaned, the number and size of objects in the space itself and the frequency of services administered. An in-person evaluation is required to provide a quote.

How do businesses prepare for electrostatic disinfection?

Businesses receiving electrostatic disinfection services can prepare their space for cleaning by storing items that do not need to be sprayed, such as loose papers and articles of clothing. Having these items out in an area can impede a cleaning team’s ability to apply cleaning solutions quickly and easily, just as with other cleaning services.
Remove paperwork and folders, clothing, garbage, clutter and any other items from surfaces
Store all food, open containers, dishware and cutlery in a safe space away from surfaces
Ensure floors are free of unnecessary items (dirt will be handled by the cleaning team)
Take down all decorations so that walls and surfaces may be easily cleaned
